Moisturizing essentials

Maybe you ditched conventional moisturizers years ago, or perhaps you’re exploring more natural options.

A great way to use natural oils and essential oils as a moisturizer and toner is to mix a few drops of premium Lavender or Tea Tree essential oil with a natural oil like Rosehip, Argan, Jojoba or Pomeganate and some water to create a light spritzer, which you can spray over your face after removing the makeup to maintain hydration for the skin. If you have air conditioning at home or the weather is particularly dry, use a natural skincare oil at night before you go to sleep after you take your makeup off.

You can use the natural oils as a makeup remover in the evening. Dab a small amount on a cotton ball and use it to remove the makeup. Not only is the oil efficient in removing the makeup, it also hydrates the skin overnight that may otherwise feel dried when using alcohol swabs. They serve the dual purpose of not only helping remove the makeup but also as a toner for for your skin to keep it firm and healthy.

Lavender essential oil is one of the few essential oils that can be used directly on the skin without dilution. Tea-Tree essential oil is known for its highly disinfectant, anti-bacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal properties that are also associated with the treatment of acne.

Often referred to as “liquid gold”, argan oil is loaded with vitamins A and E and is truly a gift of hydration to the skin and hair. Rich with fatty acids and anti-oxidants, argan is a gift of rich nourishment and health to both the internal and external body. This dry oil leaves skin with a radiant, healthy-looking sheen.

Rosehip oil is well-known in the beauty world for its moisturizing and restorative properties. Because winter months can be drying, using a heavier oil at night, no matter your skin type helps moisturize the skin. Rosehip oil is a bit thicker than the other oils and absorbs very quickly. Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants work to repair the skin barrier and antioxidants can help prevent drying and reverse free radical damage.

Pomegranate seed oil is nourishing and rich, making it an essential player in many skin care and health products. Pomegranate oil stimulates major cells found in the outer layer of the skin which in turn reverses damage and unveils youthfulness and health. This natural anti-inflammatory soothes and restores damage, making it a great natural remedy for irritation or chronic dehydration.

You may use argan oil to balance the hydration, jojoba oil to remove the makeup, and rosehip oil to keep the skin looking firm and healthy.

Besides natural oils are also more cost effective — one bottle of your favorite essential oil can not only nourish your skin, but it can help to reduce stress, alleviate pain and fight skin infections as well. Plus, essential oils are all natural, which means they are free of dangerous chemicals and better for the environment too.

Choose your moisturizer carefully. You may have found a moisturizer that works just fine in spring and summer. But as weather conditions change, so too should your skin care routine.
